Stickler Frank Gilbert, 53 years old, died suddenly in Cincinnati Monday afternoon about 4:15 o'clock. He had been up in town in the forenoon. While he had a good car yet he walked. He returned home and told his wife he felt very bad. She got the car and was taking him to Dr. Sturdivant's office; the car passed the hotel he was sitting by his wife, she driving. Between the east crossing (the side crossing) Frank fell or slumped in the car. Mrs. Gilbert drove over the crossing, stopped the car and the Steel brothers, Matt and Hugh, and other men rushed out and took Frank and laid him on the parking by the Robert Ross store where many men with hats fanned him. Dr. Sturdivant was called but Frank died before medical aid could be given. He was a heavy man and apoplexy seemed to be the cause. Undertaker Best was called and moved the body to his rooms. Frank was a Spanish-American soldier and for several years he ran a freight train from Centerville to Brookfield, Mo., as conductor, later he was in the shoe repair business until his eyesight failed him. He leaves to mourn his passing a wife, one daughter, Mrs. Blanch (Blanche) Miller, and two grandchildren living in Montreal, Canada, and two sisters, Mrs. Anna Shumake (Shoemaker) and family in Colorado Springs and Mrs. Robert Forsyth and family living in Thornton, Ia., besides many neighbors and friends. He also has several cousins, some living here. Mrs. Robert Martin in Centerville is a cousin to him. E. U. Irelan and Mrs. Charley Duffy (Duffey) of Cincinnati are his cousins. Gilbert Frank Eli, son of Lizzie May and Josiah Gilbert, was born near Cincinnati June 26, 1879, and died there August 1, 1932, aged 53 years, 1 month and 5 days. He was married June 4, 1900, to Henretta Crowder, and to this union was born one daughter, Blanche. He is survived by his wife, his daughter Mrs. Ralph Miller of Montreal, Canada, and two small granddaughters. Also two sisters, Mrs. R. J. Forsythe (Forsyth) of Thornton, Iowa, and Mrs. Will Shoemaker of Colorado Springs, Colo., besides a host of relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, two sisters and a brother. The early part of his life was spent in Appanoose county but in 1915 he with his family moved to Indianapolis, Indiana, where they resided for 15 years. In November 1930 they returned to Cincinnati, where they lived at the time of his sudden death. He was a veteran of the Spanish-American war, and a member of the Centre Lodge A. F. & A. M. of Indianapolis, Indiana. He was a devoted husband and an ideal father, and his congeniality and trustworthiness endeared him to all with whom he came in contact. "He is not dead he is just away."
