The following year they moved to Ogden, Utah, and in 1881 to Kansas where they resided for eleven years, coming to Iowa in 1892, where he spent the rest of his life. Seven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Forbes. Mr. Forbes was a shoemaker by trade and followed this for many years, several of which were spent in Alden.
