Mr. Harpeneau was born Feb. 29, 1876, in Steinfeld, Germany. He came to this community when he was 16, and married Bernadine Deters Feb. 6, 1900, in Le Mars. They farmed in America township until 1948, when they retired and moved to Le Mars. Survivors include his wife, Bernadine; six sons, John, Henry, Tony and Isadore, all of Remsen, Rev. Leo Harpeneau of Mallard and Al of Le Mars; four daughters, Mrs. Anton (Mary) Kolbeck of Humboldt, S. D., Mrs. Joseph (Philomine) Schwarz of Merrill, Mrs. Marvin (Rita) Kolbeck of Le Mars, and Mrs. Ed (Evelyn) Miller ot Sioux City. Other survivors include 59 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and three brothers in Germany. Mr. Harpeneau was preceded in death by two sons, Joseph and Clarence, and a daughter, Regina. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Trinity Council; and the Holy Name society. Friends may call at the Wiltgern-Luedtke Funeral home after p.m. Tuesday until service time. Six grandsons will act as pallbearers.
