Carroll Times - Thursday, January 1, 1920 - Frank I Cheasbro, insurance agent with offices over Holley's Music House, hanged himself Saturday afternoon in an outbuilding on the Cheasbro premises, 905 North Main street, and when he was discovered by his brother, John, a few hours later, the body was cold in death. Mr. Cheasbro had not been enjoying the best of health, and since the death of his father, which occurred in December, the young man had been more melancholy than usual, though he had never shown any signs of self destruction. He had been seen Saturday by neighbors, as well as by the J.F. Kobler family, who occupy the Cheasbro residence, and the boys were both rooming there, and no one who saw him had an idea that he contemplated the rash act. He had gone to the outbuilding, twisted together a number of strands of heavy twine, and done everything to make certain his death. The body was removed to the Mellott undertaking parlors, and the funeral was conducted from that place Tuesday morning at ten o'clock. Interment being made in the city cemetery. F.I. Cheasbro, son of the late John Hugh Cheasbro, was born at Mapleton, Iowa, September 4, 1882, and came to Carroll with his parents when he was five years old. When a child of four he was stricken with spinal meningitis, which left him partially paralyzed and he was an invalid all through life. Later he was afflicted with epilepsy which burden he bore for many years. Funeral services were held in Mellott's furniture store Tuesday morning at ten o'clock and were conducted by Rev. E.E. Clayton. His mother died in this city May 26, 1910, as the result of a fall, and his father died two weeks ago. He leaves to mourn his death two brothers, J.B. Cheasbro, of Bellingham, Washington, and John of Carroll and one sister, Mrs. M.A. Beach, of Stratford, Iowa, three nephews and two nieces.
