Koahler Jr. was born to Frank Koahler Sr. and Minnie (Schropfer) Koahler on February 3, 1913, on the family farm in Glengary township, Fillmore county, Nebraska. He passed away at his home in Geneva on January 22, 19994, at the age of 80 years, 11 months and 22 days. He was one of eight children in the family. He passed away at his home in Geneva on January 22, 19994, at the age of 80 years, 11 months and 22 days. He was one of eight children in the family. Frank was baptized at the Catholic Church in Milligan and attended the Alpine rural school District No. 65 east of Geneva. He graduated from Milligan high School with the class of 1929. Frank was married to Agnes Teresa Vejraska of Milligan on February 26, 1935, and to them two daughters were born. They resided on a farm southeast of Geneva. On March 18, 1953, Frank and Agnes joined the Geneva Community Grange no. 403. They remained members throughout their life. Frank’s life revolved around the farm and farming activities. He remained on the home place until this past summer when failing health made it necessary for him to move to Geneva. Even following his move to town, his interests and concern remained in the country. The farm and the life it provided helped to mold the values Frank held in esteem, such as honesty and loyalty to family and friends and the necessity for hard work. Frank’s greatest love throughout his life was music. His leisure time was spent and enjoyed by playing his saxophone and clarinet. For many years he played in the Rudy Jay Orchestra and the Milligan Legion Czech Brass Band. One of the musical selections used at his service was a recording of the Milligan Brass Band, featuring Frank on his clarinet. Friends were important to him and he took pleasure in visiting and playing cards with them throughout his life. During later years, much time and enjoyment was had at the Geneva Senior Center and the activities provided there. He was an avid reader and kept abreast of current affairs locally and on the state and national level through this activity. Each of Frank’s grandchildren have their own special memories of him. Scott remembers him enjoying the chores on the farm and practicing his saxophone and clarinet. Kim remembers accompanying him to the pasture to check on the cattle and driving to town to deliver eggs. Krisha has memories of going to the fields to check the crops, visiting the farm ponds with the dog and going to town to get the paper. Each trip to town was special in that he would never say no to requests for candy and gum. Kammie has fond memories of mowing on the rider mower, only in later years to discover that he had carefully saw to it that the blades were shut off. Also remembered were rides in the pickup to the pasture to check on livestock and the fun in looking for grandpa when grandma said it was time to eat. Each has their own special memories of who he was and what made him unique. A quiet and kind man who took the time to listen, humble but strong in character and conviction. He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant sisters; by sisters, Agnes Koahler, Clara Justa and Gladys Steinacher and by his wife, Agnes, who passed away in January of 1989. He is survived by daughters, Donna (Stan) Schelkopf and Pat Dudley; Grandchildren Scott Schelkopf, Kim (Schelkopf) Lemke, Krisha Dudley and Kammie (Dudley) Campbell; five great-grandchildren; brother, Earl Koahler and sister, Hazel Uldrich. Funeral services were conducted from the Farmer & Son Funeral Home in Geneva at 2 p.m., Tuesday, January 25, with the Rev. Stan Rider officiating. Mrs. Norval Lomax accompanied Delwin V. Myers who sang “The Old Rugged Cross” and “How Great Thou Art.” A special music selection provided was a recording of the Milligan Brass Band in which Frank played. Casket bearers were Scott Schelkopf, Bill Meader, Luke Lemke, Bob Engle, Myron Uldrich and Carl Just. Interment was in the Geneva Public Cemetery. The Nebraska Signal February 2nd, 1994 page 19.
