Description	:	Frank Jacobe, 91, former prominent building contractor here and oldest retired businessman in Hawarden, died at his home last Friday. Mr. Jacobe had been in failing health for some time and at times was quite ill but railed frequently. Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Associated church with Rev. Six of his grandsons, Lewis Jacobe, John Morgan, Paul Schiefen, Frank Schiefen, Vincent Schiefen and Joe Schiefen were pall bearers. Burial was in Grace Hill cemetery with the Barnard Funeral Home in charge. Mr. Jacobe was the first of three generations of building contractors in his family, and he built many of the commercial structures and homes and farm buildings in the Hawarden area. His son, Ben, and his grandson, Louis, are not contractors. Frank Jacobe was born at Dickeyville, Wis., November 9, 1862, but came to Odeboldt, Iowa, when a small boy. He was married to Miss Josephine Haefner at Sac City December 1, 1881. The first year of his married life he spent at Peterson and in 1882 he came to Hawarden. For many years he was employed as a carpenter by the North Western Railway company. He built a one room house along the North Western track and later the family lived in a box car. Gradually Mr. Jacobe contracted carpenter work and finally severed his connection with the railroad company, going into business for himself. Later when Mr. and Mrs. John Haines came to Hawarden, he and Mr. Haines were in partnership in the carpenter business for a number of years. Mr. Haines and Mr. Jacobe were brothers-in-law. When his son Ben, grew up he learned the carpenter trade from his father and they worked together for years. His grandson, Louis Jacobe, also learned the trade from the elder Jacobe. During his life Mr. Jacobe was affiliated with the Associated church and was a member of the Woodmen of the World lodge. Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Marie Morgan, Mrs. Margaret Wilkison and Mrs. Anna Dunham of Hawarden, and Mrs. Isabel Fogel of West Riverside, Calif.; two sons, Ben of Hawarden and E.H. Jacobe of Long Beach, Calif.; one brother, Herman Jacobe of Sterling, Colo.; 15 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren.
