Description	:	JOLIET - Frank L. Evertz, 85, of Joliet, succumbed to pancreatic cancer Sunday evening, Oct. 16, 2005, at home, surrounded by loved ones. Frank was born Aug. 16, 1920, on a ranch in the 10 Mile area of Terry, to George and Ann Kolasky Evertz. He was the third of five children, one of whom died in infancy. Evertz, 85, of Joliet, succumbed to pancreatic cancer Sunday evening, Oct. 16, 2005, at home, surrounded by loved ones. Frank was born Aug. 16, 1920, on a ranch in the 10 Mile area of Terry, to George and Ann Kolasky Evertz. He was the third of five children, one of whom died in infancy. He spent his childhood on the family ranch near Terry, moving to the Joliet area with his family in 1935, where he attended and graduated from Joliet High School in 1939. Frank was working in an airplane factory at the start of WWII and entered the Army Air Corps, Feb. 22, 1944. He received the Bronze Star and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross when his combat crew flew their B-24 into the eye of a hurricane to obtain weather information prior to the bombing of Hiroshima. He married Shirley Harpst, March 25, 1949, in California. Following his discharge in 1954, they returned to Joliet, where Frank ranched with his brother Bob. Ranching was the joy of Frank's life. He overcame many hardships in his life to succeed. He was a member of Joliet VFW Post 5748, the Retired Officers Association and had served on the board of the Production Credit Association. Frank was preceded in death by an infant brother, George; his parents; a daughter, Sandra Evertz Van Buren; his wife, Shirley Harpst Evertz; and his brother, John Evertz. He is survived by his sons, Larry Evertz and Alan (Danette) Evertz, both of Joliet, and Frank L. Evertz, Jr., of Billings; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; his mother-in-law, Ruth Drinning of Vacaville, Calif.; his brother, Robert (Betty) Evertz; his sister, Mary Ann (Clyde) Finley; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Beartooth Hospice and all who aided in Frank's care during the past few years. Vigil services will be 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, at St. John's Catholic Church, Joliet. The Funeral Mass will be held there at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 21. Rite of Committal with Military Honors will follow at the Joliet Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Beartooth Hospice or the charity of one's choice. Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary has charge of arrangements. Published in the Billings Gazette on 10/19/2005.
