Read More	Son of Merton Long & Floy Clara Cellman Barnard Veteran of World War 2 Frank LeMerton Barnard, son of Merton Long Barnard and Floy Clara Cellman Barnard was born November 14, 1918 in Jamison, Iowa and passed from this life Sunday, October 28, 2012 at Clarke County Hospital in Osceola, Iowa at 93 years of age. Frank attended country school at Jamison and Pleasant Valley before graduating from New Virginia High School in 1936. Following graduation, Frank farmed with his father until he went into the service in 1942 for four years. He served his country in Belgium and France during World War II with the United States Army 422nd Medical Collection Company, attaining the rank of Sergeant. In 1947, Frank was united in marriage to Gweneth Hylton and they lived in New Virginia. Three children, Kay, Sandra and Stanley, blessed this union. Frank worked his lifetime as a farmer. After his military service, he continued to help farm the home place until 1950 when he and Gweneth ventured out on their own. After the death of his father, Frank and Eldon formed a partnership and farmed together for 30 years, until Frank retired in 1984 and moved to Osceola. He also substituted as a rural mail carrier and later assisted an electrician. Frank was very involved in his community. An active member of his church for over 60 years, he rarely missed a Sunday service, served on boards, and sang in the choir. Other organizations to which he contributed were the New Virginia Lion's Club, American Legion Post #218, the New Virginia and Interstate 35 school boards, and other township and county boards. A lifetime St. Louis Cardinals fan, Frank showed three generations how to really "go to a game", from the start of batting practice to the very last pitch. His vocal quartet provided entertainment for many years, and he enjoyed Barbershop shows. In addition, Frank enjoyed woodworking, fishing, golfing, and traveling which included 49 states, Canada and Mexico. Everywhere Frank went, he found a story, some about the people and places, others were just good stories, and he told them well. However, his greatest memories were from the time spent with his family. Those relatives who preceded Frank in death were his parents, wife and brothers-in-law, Ivan Henrichs, Wayne Akes, and Robert Moore, Sr. Frank leaves to cherish his memory; children, Kay (Jerry) Marso of Waukee; Sandra (Steve) Lathrum of St. Charles; Stanley (Connie) Barnard of Urbandale; seven grandchildren, Gregory (Amy) Marso of Onalaska, WI; Lori (David) Cuomo of Towson, MD; Kari (Jeffrey) Dawson of Norwalk; Richard Lathrum of St. Charles; Chad (Angie) Barnard of Clive; Jenna (Abraham) Theoflo of Urbandale; Nicholas Barnard of Iowa City; nine great-grandchildren, Gwen, Natalie, and Zachary Marso, Joey, Katy, and Maggy Cuomo, Brett Dawson, Luke and Camille Barnard; brother, Eldon (Marian) Barnard of New Virginia; sisters, Jean Henrichs of New Virginia, Marion Akes of Osceola, Margaret (Warren) Moore of Omaha; sister-in-law, Edith Moore of Ft. Collins, CO; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Visitation on Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at Kale Funeral Home (Osceola Chapel) 301 S. Main St. Osceola Iowa 50213. Open after 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday with family greeting friends from 6:00 to 8:00 Wednesday evening. Service 10:00 am on Thursday, November 1, 2012 at New Virginia United Methodist Church 301 West St. New Virginia Iowa 50210. Burial in New Virginia Cemetery New Virginia Iowa 50210.
