Frank's mother was Achsah Angeline (Squires) Place, Wheeless. Frank was born on a farm in North Fork township, Delaware County Iowa. He died in a car accident just north of Marion, Iowa in Linn county. Mother's sister Louise Doan was killed in this accident also. Frank's mother was Achsah Angeline (Squires) Place, Wheeless. Frank was born on a farm in North Fork township, Delaware County Iowa. He died in a car accident just north of Marion, Iowa in Linn county. Mother's sister Louise Doan was killed in this accident also. My father was taking Aunt Louise to Cedar Rapids to keep a doctor's appointment. A sixteen year old boy, who had purchased the car and received his driver's license that morning, was driving on the wrong side of the road and hit them head on at the crest of a hill. My father and Aunt Louise were killed instantly. The passenger, a young boy, in the other car died also. My father was 72 years old and Aunt Louise was 64. This was a terrible tragedy for our family. The Wheeless family has been traced to Benjamin who fought and was a prisoner in the Revolutionary War. Allen Wheeless fought in the Mexican War at the Battle of Buena Vista. They fought against staggering odds of 23,000 Mexican troops to 4,601 of General Taylor's troops. The Americans routed the troops of Santa Ana and the battle changed the course of the war. An uncle and cousin of grandpa were killed in this battle. On 1 May 1907 he married Minnie Prideg at Hopkinton, Iowa by the Methodist minister. Dad and mother were active members of the United Methodist Church like Grandpa Wheeless. Dad also belonged to the Masonic Lodge. Dad was a sports enthusiast. he bowled on a team. Mother and dad rarely missed a local sports event. Minnie Prideg and Frank Wheeless were the parents of 3 children: Dale Alen Wheeless Mary Elizabeth (Wheeless) Sexton Donald Clair Wheeless
