Parzychowski near Sterling and report a frightful condition of affairs in the afflicted family, another death having occurred since Dr. Chambers vis last Wednesday. When the doctor was at the farm last week the symptoms of the disease pointed to malignant measles with indications of other trouble. Since then scarlet fever has developed in a most malignant form and the youngest son of Parzychowski died from it Sunday. This boy was improving some and was allowed to get up and run about the house against the strict order of the doctor, and suddenly he fell over dead, the disease having affected his heart. The oldest boy and only child remaining of a family of four, is very low with the fever and his death is momentarily expected, as no amount of caution avails to secure the following of the doctor’s injunctions. In addition to the sickness in the Parzychowski home, to make matters worse, a brother of the man and his family of six arrived from Poland and took up their abode in the house and the infant of this family is now very low with the fever. The horror of the situation cannot be appreciated, the doctor says, without a view of the premises. The house is only about 12x20 feet in size, with a little shed leanto for fuel. There are but two rooms, one of which is occupied by the newcomers and the other by Parzychowski. The sick have lain in the room where the cooking was done and sanitary conditions were at the lowest possible ebb. The situation has been a little alleviated by making part of the recent arrivals seek beds in the stable, but it is probable that all the children will come down with the disease, as they have all been exposed to it. As fast as the children died they were rolled up in the bed clothes they slept in and laid in the shed, three being there at one time, and still the father would not call a doctor, tho it is said he is amply able to pay for medical care. This coming to the ears of the Sterling people, they informed the authorities and action has been taken to stamp out the disease, and it is thought it will not get beyond this household. The bedding and clothes of the deceased have been burned and the neighbors have supplied other bedding, and arrangements have been made for a messenger to go to and from Sterling daily with food and to see how they are getting along. The strictest possible quarantine will be maintained as the neighbors are bound to see that no one leaves the stricken place. The TRIBUNE. **The Settler, Thursday, May 24, 1906, Page 4.
