Hannibal Wingate [Winget] of near Kirby was stricken with typhoid fever and died the 3rd. The remains were interred the following Sunday at the King cemetery in Knox [Shelby] County. On Monday night, the day after the burial, Mrs. Joe Wand, a sister of Mr. Wingate [Winget], also died of typhoid fever and was laid to rest Wednesday. Pearl Wingate (Winget] of Leonard, a son of Hannibal Wingate [Winget] died last Wednesday the day the aunt was buried and was laid to rest Thursday beside his father and aunt. There are several other cases of fever in the same neighborhood. Again the Angel of Death has visited our community and this time knocked at the door of a young husband. The angel did not heed the pleadings of loving hearts within, medical science could not force him away; as ever he came an unwelcome guest, but demanded admittance and carried away with him a man full of vigor and strength; a man whose shadows were still leaning toward the west. Frank Pearl Winget was born in Adams county, Ill., Nov. 2, 1879; died at his home northwest of Shelbyville Nov. 8, 1905; aged 26 years and 6 days. He was converted at the North River Baptist church at the age of 15; six years later he united with the Berea Christian church, living a consistent christian life to the very best of his ability. He was married to Miss Ellie Howerton Jan. 3, 1905. He leaves to mourn his departure a wife, mother, two brothers, one sister, numerous relatives and friends. He was a kind and loving husband, a dutiful son, an affectionate brother, an upright and honest citizen. He left a legacy far more valuable than silver and gold, more important than fame or honor--that of an untarnished name About two weeks before he died we spent the day together. I remember how he spoke of future plans. Little did we think that one of the number was soon to pass away. Ah, it is but another illustration of the uncertainty of life. Death steals upon us like a thief in the night. Let us strive to be ready "For we know not the day nor the hour." Let us live our lives in such a way that we may have the assurance of triumphantly entering heaven with flags unfurled in the breeze of heaven, with music in the air, with shouts of men and of angels on our ears and with God saying "well done." The funeral services were conducted at the King graveyard on Thursday, Nov. 9, at 11 a.m. by the writer and the Modern Woodmen. C.E. Wagner, Pastor of Christian Church. Pearl Winget, deceased, with the Modern Woodmen of America was settled in a very short time. In three days from the time the papers were prepared by the physicians and others at this place and sent in to headquarters the clerk of this Camp received an order for the money. The amount of insurances carried by each of the deceased was $2,000, which will be a great help to their families. Hannibal Winget joined the Woodmen Camp in the year of 1899 and up to the time of his death his insurance had only cost him the total of sum of $80.60. F. Pearl Winget had only been a member four years and his insurance cost him $33.60. There is no doubt about it being a good thing to carry some life insurance.
