Description	:	ROCKLAND – Frank S. Cushman, 73, died Friday, February 29, 2008, at his home after a long illness. Born in Rockland, April 7, 1934, he was the son of Cecil F. and Cora Spear Cushman. Raised and educated in Thomaston, he left school early to enlist in the United States Army. During the Korean War, Frank served as a Medic in Germany, France and Holland. The couple made their first home in Rockland... Read More	ROCKLAND – Frank S. Cushman, 73, died Friday, February 29, 2008, at his home after a long illness. Born in Rockland, April 7, 1934, he was the son of Cecil F. and Cora Spear Cushman. Raised and educated in Thomaston, he left school early to enlist in the United States Army. During the Korean War, Frank served as a Medic in Germany, France and Holland. After returning home to civilian life, while working at 40 Fathoms in Rockland, he met his future bride. September 25, 1954, he married Lauretta M. Nystrom at Rockland. The couple made their first home in Rockland for a brief time, and lived the next two years in Thomaston. They later lived in Southington, Connecticut, seven years and have since resided in the mid-coast area. Frank work more than 14 years at the Camden Tannery; for about two years at Bath Iron Works, and until his retirement due to illness at Rockland Leathers. He was a member of the Rockland Memorial Post, Veterans of Foreign Wars, where he volunteered many hours at Bingo games. He particularly enjoyed being at home, sitting on his porch swing. Frank was pre-deceased by one brother Harold Cushman. He is survived by his wife of 53 years of Rockland; three sons and their wives, one daughter, one brother, one sister, 12 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, March 6, 2008, at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. A graveside service at Village Cemetery, Thomaston, will be announced in the spring.
