Born in Rockland, September 3, 1934, she was on of 15 children of Charles and Eneeda Ford Nystrom. Educated locally, Lauretta attended Rockland schools. In 1954, Lauretta married Frank S. Cushman. Together they moved to Connecticut where she was employed as a C.N.A. Returning to Rockland in 1962, Lauretta went to work for several local fish factories. She retired from Stinson Canning Company in 1993 to care for her husband full time. Lauretta was proud to be a baptized member of the Nazarene Church in Rockland, having been baptized by her nephew, Joe LaCombe. She was an avid Elvis fan and had an extensive collection of Elvis memorabilia. Her husband often referred to their home as Graceland East. Lauretta also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lauretta's family said they were grateful for the wonderful care she received from Dr. Coyle and the caring staff and nurses at Penobscot Bay Medical Center and Kno-Wal-Lin Hospice. Lauretta was predeceased by her husband, Frank S. Cushman, in 2008 and several brother's and sisters. Survivors include her children, Frank C. Cushman and his wife Diane of Tarpan Springs, Florida, Jeffrey L. Cushman and his wife, Jayne of South Thomaston, Bruce A. Cushman and his wife, Kathy of Warren, Cheryl A. Chusman of Rockland; four brothers, William Nystrom, Edward Nystrom, both of Rockland, Robert Kelley of Round Pond, Calvin Grey of Rockland; a sister, Catherine LaCombe; 12 grandchildren, Christopher, Candice, Joseph, Aaron, Kara, Nathaniel, Jeanie, Casey, Felicia, Ashley, Steven and Zachary; six great-grandchildren, Riley, Christopher CJ, Chloe, Marc, Logan, and Kaileigh; as well as many nieces and nephews. A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 p.m, Friday, November 18, 2011 at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. Pastor Joe LaCombe will officiate. Interment will follow at the Village Cemetery, Thomaston.
