Read More	death certificate available here from the state of Missouri the following obituary abstracts are from Selected Death Notices From Jackson County, Kansas Newspapers, Vol. XI; compiled by Dan Fenton: The Holton Recorder August 22, 1918 Frank Shrontz, tall, erect, with a natural soldierly bearing, after failing in an effort to enlist in the navy and later in the army, was finally accepted on the 5th of last month and assigned to the infantry at Jefferson Barracks, St. Louis. He was in impaired health for some months prior to his entering the army and contrary to the hope that the more open life of a soldier might bring back vigor, a malarial condition developed, which terminated fatally on last Saturday evening, August 17th. Frank was the third eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Shrontz, was born in Holton, May 30, 1890, reaching the age of 28 years, 2 months and 17 days … mother, three brothers, Eldon, Reed and Dewey, and one sister, Reba. His father and brother Burdette preceded him in death. He was educated in the public schools of Holton, completing the high school course. Later he took up the work of electrician …. joined the Methodist church…. The Holton Signal August 15, 1918 When word of Frank Shrontz death at Jefferson Barracks, Mo., was received in Holton, his brother Reed Shrontz was on his way to France, having left the United States.
