Read More	The Farmers Vindicator, Valley Falls, KS, __ Oct. 1915 Frank VanGaasbeck was born at Kingsville, Asthabula county Ohio, September 21, 1836; and died at his home near North Cedar, September 25, 1915. He was the youngest of a family of 11, and had out-lived all the others. When he was fifteen years old, his parents moved to Wisconsin. In 1865 he visited Kansas and decided to locate here, which he did the following year. In 1867 he bought the farm on which he has resided ever since. On March 26, 1857, in York, Wisconsin, he was united in marriage to Miss Eudora Pelton, who departed this life April 27, 1877, leaving an infant daughter, Dora, who soon followed her. Two other children have preceded him to the great beyond, Herschell and Mrs. Carrie Shumway. He is survived by three daughters, nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, besides many other relatives and a host of friends. The daughters are Mrs. Della Wilson, Linwood; Mrs. Hattie Ferrell, North Cedaar; Mrs. Jennie L. Wilson, Loring, Kansas. Being one of the pioneers on Cedar, he experienced all the hardships and joys common to the early settlers; assisted in the development of the country; and observed its growth with deep satisfaction. One instance of the many changes he had seen wrought, was from riding behind an ox-team from Atchison, the nearest depot, when he made his first trip to Kansas, to riding in an automobile, during the last years of his life. He always took a deep interest in all public affairs; he showed this interest in educational affairs by serving on the school board for years; in agricultural affairs by being a member of Farmers Grange; in political affairs by being Representative in State Legislature. He became a member of the Masonic Lodge in Wisconsin, at the age of 21, was demitted from Waterloo (Wis.) Lodge No. 63, and joined the Lodge at Valley Falls, Feb. 16, 1876, thus being a life long member. He was a man of unusually strong moral character and thus leaves an example that his young friends may do well to emulate. About two years ago, he suffered a slight stroke of paralysis and his health has gradually declined since, resulting in his death. The funeral was held at the home Monday at 11 o'clock, Rev. Kimball officiating at the services. Music was furnished by the Kendall quartett. The burial was in Rose Hill cemetery the Masonic Lodge having charge there.
