He was united in marriage on Sept. 21, 1899, to Anna Metschke. Mr. Hoge died (2-2-43). His wife preceded him in death (6-15-36). To this union were born six children, Emma Bleyhl (Walter), Reinhold Hoge (Mattie Arps), Clara Flamme (Allan), Elsie Harnisch (Hans), Erma Wegner (Marvin), and Harold Hoge (Vera Flamme). The only survivor is Harold who resides on the third generation farm. In the early years, farming was done in a slow, relaxing manner. Horses were used for all power needed - such as grinding feed, farming, transportation, road work and many other jobs. The family's first home was moved up the hill where the present home sits, a room added on now and then, mostly when a new baby was born. They worked by daylight as there wasn't any electricity, kerosene lamps were used in the home. Homes were heated with wood and oil burners. Trees were considered a great asset to protect the land from erosion and the wood for fuel. The Hoge family were all members of the Trinity L.C. rural Scribner, which has been closed since Sept. 14, 1986
