He was the son of Fredrik and Sophia (Kohn) Hoge. Fredrik came to America with his four brothers. They landed in New York - never to meet again. Fredrik and Sophia were blessed with seven children, George, Maria (Engelbrecht), Henry, Frank, Herman, Bertha (Martins) and Ferdinand. Sophia was the daughter of Peter Henry and Catherine (Schnueck) Stockamp. They had six children: Henry, Mary, John Henry, George F., Mathilda and Clara. Henry Hoge married Mathilda Stockamp on Sept. 26, 1895. They were blessed with five children: John H. (7-5-1897/1-6-58) never married; Edward (7-25-1898/5-1-80) married Meta Wegner and had two children, Kenneth and Norma Lorenz; Hulda Hedwig (Wegner)(8-13-1900/10-7-66) married Wm Wegner and they had three children, Alvin, Inez (Clark) and Delwyn; Meta (Alberts) (2-7-02) had two children, Ardean (Dames) and Donal; Luella A. Stienke)(2-16-07/12-16-87) had one daughter, Arlene (Prall). Henry and Mathilda homesteaded the land that is now occupied by great-grandson Ronald Dames. Henry worked many years as "road boss" in the Scribner-Snyder area. Henry died on (9-5-47) and Mathilda died on (10-8-53). They are buried in the Trinity Cemetery.
