Description	:	Franklin Sampson, 77 Franklin "Buddy" Sampson, 77, of Shenandoah, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011, at Harrisonburg Health and Rehabilitation Center. Mr. Sampson was born Jan. 12, 1934, in the Fleeburg area of Page County, and was a son of the late John Thomas and Willie Vernel (Breeden) Sampson. Buddy was a foreman for Moore Bros. Construction for many years most notably working on the two bridge projects in Elkton. He enjoyed hunting, helping friends and family butcher and loved playing and listening to music. Read More	Franklin Sampson, 77 Franklin "Buddy" Sampson, 77, of Shenandoah, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011, at Harrisonburg Health and Rehabilitation Center. Mr. Sampson was born Jan. 12, 1934, in the Fleeburg area of Page County, and was a son of the late John Thomas and Willie Vernel (Breeden) Sampson. Buddy was a foreman for Moore Bros. Construction for many years most notably working on the two bridge projects in Elkton. He enjoyed hunting, helping friends and family butcher and loved playing and listening to music. Mr. Sampson was a part owner in a racecar and helped found the Shenandoah Moose Lodge. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Amos O. Comer VFW Post No. 8613. On March 10, 1956, he married Josephine Veringo, who preceded him in death on Jan. 14, 2001. He is survived by two sons, Tony Sampson of Shenandoah, and Keith Sampson and wife, Dee, of Shenandoah; three brothers, Johnny Sampson, James "Jimmy" Sampson and Harry Sampson, all of Shenandoah; four sisters, Charlotte Weeks of Stuarts Draft, Eleanor May of Elkton, Rebecca Hudson of Grottoes, and Carrie Moyers of Harrisonburg; three grandchildren, Carrie Reel, Serenia Obaugh, Stone Sampson; five great-grandchildren, Colton Huffman, Chase Huffman, Jaedyn Obaugh, Carleigh Obaugh and Torilynn Obaugh; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Phillip "Sug" Sampson; five brothers, Melvin Sampson, Thurman Sampson, Charles Sampson, Kenneth Sampson and Ray Sampson; and a sister, Hilda Merica. Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 4, 2011, at 11 a.m. at the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton with the Rev. L.J. "Dickie" Campbell officiating. Burial will follow at the George Comer Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shenandoah Rescue Squad, 544 Fourth St., Shenandoah, VA 22849, or to the Shenandoah Fire Dept., 201 Pennsylvania Ave., Shenandoah, VA 22849.
