Description	:	Franklin Robinson French was born July 1, 1809, probably in St. Lawrence County, New York near the town of Stockholm, since his father Zephaniah was elected supervisor of Stockholm 1808–09. Read More	Franklin Robinson French was born July 1, 1809, probably in St. Lawrence County, New York near the town of Stockholm, since his father Zephaniah was elected supervisor of Stockholm 1808–09. Franklin's mother was Zephaniah's second wife Elizabeth, who died in Jennings county, Indiana in 1845. Franklin French and Virginia M. Irwin born August 10, 1810 in Ohio, were married September 4, 1831 in Decanture County, Indiana by Nathanael Robinson who filed the marriage certificate in the courthouse in Greensburg, Indiana on December 31, 1831. (These records are located in book B, page 123.) The parentage of Virginia is Unknown, other than, she was born in Ohio and probably had a brother, Presley who married a sister of Franklin French. The US census reports can be used to trace the life of Franklin R French from the time of his marriage to his death on April 11, 1880. -The 1840 US census, Jennings County, Indiana shows that Franklin and Virginia have a boy and a girl under five and a boy 5 to 10. -The 1850 census, Grove Township, Davis County, Iowa shows six children, 3 to 17 years old are born in Indiana. Note: Davis county land record show that Franklin Roberson French bought 320 acres in section 19 and 80 acres in section 30, all in Township 68, range 13. These purchases were made August and September 1848. Indicating that this was about the time the French family moved from Jennings County Indiana to Davis County, Iowa. -The 1860 census, Grove Township, Davis county, Iowa, shows only the youngest for children at home. He is 51 and Virginia is 49. -The 1870 census, same location, shows only Jerome the next to youngest son living with his parents. One daughter, Josephine H French, was born September 1, 1851 and died December 7, 1854 and thus missed being listed in any census. She is buried in the Union cemetery near Bloomfield, Iowa. Virginia in French died on November 16, 1870, she is buried in the union cemetery also. In 1871 or 1872, Franklin married lettuce Israel; she had a son from a previous marriage, Henry Israel, born ca 1858 in Missouri. A daughter, Corby, was born to Franklin and lettuce French on June 1, 1873. The death of Franklin or French is recorded in the newspaper "the Bloomfield Republican" of April 15, 1880: "Mr. FR French, an old and reputable citizen of this county, died suddenly, Sunday afternoon, at his residence 8 miles south east of Bloomfield. Mr. French was in town on Saturday, and on his return home, was taken with a congestive chill, which, aggravated by paralysis of the heart, caused his death. He was 70 years of age." To it: north east (1/4) quarter of North East 1/4 quarter section of (31) thirty-one Township 68 N. of Range 13 W. (40) acres. Also South 1/2) half SE (1/4) section 30. Township and range as above. Also (20) acres a part of S. Half NE section 19. Township and range as above. This is intended to enable my said wife to raise and support herself and our daughter for a B French and in case said Cora B, should outlive my said wife and after the death of my sad wife the real estate shall be inherited in fee simple basic Corby French. But when the Cora B shall arrive at the age of 21 years, she shall pay as follows, to Daniel W French $50 in one year after becoming 21 years of age. One year there after she shall pay $50 to Elizabeth Jane powers, one year there after she should pay $50 to Morris P French. One year there after she should pay Joseph T French $50, one year there after paid Rome B French $50, and one year there after One year there after she shall pay $50 to Elizabeth Jane powers, when you're there after she should pay $50 to Morris P French. The intentions is that she pays $50 each year only. Provided further that Elizabeth Jane power and her air she'll have at my death the south 30 acres of SE 14 S. W. 1/4 section 29 Township 68 N. of Range 13 W. also strip (eight) rods in width of west side of southwest half of north east corner section 19 township and range as above. Should the owner of any land at my death not provide for, my desire is that my sad wife fell and heard it, and feesimple also that my said wife shall be executor of this will and she'll not be required to give any bond for the same.
