Seyler Died At His Home Friday After 78 Years in Kansas Another early settler here passed on Friday morning. Frank S. Seyler was 83 at the time of his death; 78 years spent in Kansas. He was married in 1877 to Melissa Hughes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Hughes. Soon after their marriage they moved to the farm where Mr. Seyler's death occurred Friday. He was an active, hard working farmer, as long as his health permitted, and they were able to rear a large family, to see twelve of their children grow to manhood and womanhood before Mrs. Seyler's death. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. H. E. Coulter, at the Baptist church, Sunday afternoon. With Mrs. Overstreet at the piano the quartet, Miss Josephine Hostetter and Mrs. J. H. Cramer, sang selected songs. Pallbearers were near neighbors, A. A. Ellenwood, Burton Smith, Burr Ellenwood, and W. E. Hogan, Jeff Rice and Lon Ackey. Burial was in the Wellsville cemetery west of town. Franklin Strass Seyler, son of John and Margaret Seyler, was born at Karthaus, Pa., October 8, 1856. Two brothers and one sister survive, T. C. Seyler of Vassar, Kans., Samuel Seyler, LeLoup, Kans., and Lizzie Floyd, of Oklahoma. He moved when a small boy with his parents to Kansas, where at the age of twenty-one, he was united in marriage to Melissa Hughes, in the fall of 1877, at Lawrence, Kans. To this union fourteen children were born. A few years after their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Seyler moved to the farm one and one-half miles southwest of Wellsville where his wife preceded him in death December 12, 1920. He has lived on the farm nearly sixty years until his death January 5, 1940, at the age of eighty-three years, two months and twenty-seven days. He is survived by nine sons; Ernest A. Seyler, Oakland, Calif., Elliot H., Harry H., Albert J., and John Seyler, all of Wellsville, Kans.; Ovid Seyler, Long Beach, Calif., and Charley W. Seyler, Los Angeles, Calif., and Louis J. Seyler, Ft Lauderdale, Fla. The deceased are: Mrs. Zenna Coffman, Mrs. Kathryn DeLano, Mrs. Verda Collings, Willie and Rennie J. Seyler. He is survived by twenty-eight grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.
