Y., on Monday, January 123, 1885, at the age of 77 years. He was born and had resided in Poultney from his birth, until about two years ago, when he went to live with Mr. Nelson New in Hampton, at which residence he died. His health had been very good nearly all his life, with the exception of a rheumatic difficulty which made him a cripple for several of the last years of his life, and grew worse until he died. He left a good example of industry, and the real old-fashioned honesty. "The Thompson family, with which the deceased was connected, made a good deal of the history of Poultney. David Thompson, the grandfather of Franklin, was one of the early settlers of the town, removing from Goshen, Conn. David had two sons, Amos and Jesse, and several daughters. Amos was a prominent citizen here sixty years ago. He represented Poultney for eight years and was one of the judges of Rutland county court for eleven years, commencing in 1809. Jesse was the father of Franklin, and the late Frederick Thompson and Lorriston, who is still living; he resides in Ansonia, Conn. Of the daughters of David Thompson, one married Timothy Crittenden, one the Rev. Clark Kendrick, and another, Elisha Ashley. All this, we are aware, is not necessarily a part of an obituary notice of Franklin Thompson, but we used to be often reminded that we are passing away. Fifty years ago the Thompson families and the families connected with them by marriage were numerous. But few of their descendants remain ; the larger portion are dead - a few are living elsewhere. "Franklin had but one child, John Thompson, who died in 1875, and who was also married, but left no issue. Franklin was buried in Poultney cemetery on Wednesday, beside his wife and son."
