DIES AT HOME OF DAUGHTER Frank Madera Sr., 79, whose critical illness was noted in last week’s Star Clipper, died early Friday morning: at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Fred Novotny, northwest of Traer. He had gone to the Novotny farm Monday evening feeling unusually well, but early the following morning was stricken with euremic poisoning. His condition was critical within a few hours and so continued until the end came at 12:15 a. m. Friday. Mr. Madera was born in Chrudim. Bohemia, Sept 5, 1849. In. 1867 he came to America with his parents, the family arriving in York township. Tama county, on August 10 of that year. The decedent walked thirty-two miles to take his first job in this country, in a quarry near Montour. He soon returned to York township, however, and began farming near where Vining is now located. He was married May 24, 1885, at Chelsea to Anna Turek, who survives. The couple continued to make their home in York township until March 1, 1921, When they moved onto the Drews farm four miles northwest of Traer. Two years later they retired and came to Traer to live with Mrs. Rosa Kubik, a daughter. All of Mr. Madera’s children, four in number, survive. In addition to Mrs. Novotny and Mrs. Kubik there is another daughter— Mrs. Mary Breja. of Elberon, and one son— Frank Madera Jr., of Traer. There are thirteen grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, at the home in Traer and at St. Mary’s church at Vining, by the Rev. Father W. Hradocky. Burial was in St. Mary’s cemetery. Pallbearers were Frank Novotny, Frank Sevcik. Mike Kesl, Frank Valenta, Rudolph Upah and Joseph Strachota. Mr. Madera's only sister. Mrs. Joseph Kesl, of Des Moines, was unable to be present for the funeral. His only brother, Jos. Mareda, died in York township about twelve years ago.
