Description	:	Frantisek (Frank) Hanus was born in Bohemia on June 15, 1858. He was the son of Jan (John), Sr. and Anna (Hiadik) Hanus. Frank had five brothers, John, Jr., Joseph, Ferdinand (Fred), Anton and Votjech (Albert) and two sisters, Francis (Fannie) who married Frank John Kvidera and Annie (Anna) who married Joseph Kvidera. He was the son of Jan (John), Sr. and Anna (Hiadik) Hanus. Frank had five brothers, John, Jr., Joseph, Ferdinand (Fred), Anton and Votjech (Albert) and two sisters, Francis (Fannie) who married Frank John Kvidera and Annie (Anna) who married Joseph Kvidera. It is thought that Frank's father came to the United States in 1874. On February 14, 1887 in Vining, Frank married Barbara Valenta. She was born in Cedar Rapids on May 25, 1867, the daughter of Thomas Sr. and Mary Uridil Valenta. Frank was a farmer and Barbara was a housewife, raising their six children: Anna, William, Vencil, Albin, Charles and Marjorie. Anna was born on June 14, 1889 in Carroll Township. She attended the Center School, Carroll No. 5. On November 24, 1909 at St. Wenceslaus. Catholic Church, rural Clutier, Anna married Joseph Karl Chalupnik. Joseph, born in Carroll Township on December 4,1878, was the son of John and Anna Kosina Chalupnik and was a farmer. Joseph and Anna lived all their lives on a farm located in Carroll Township, Section 4. They had two daughters: Mayme (Mrs. Charles) Mishek (deceased) and Sylvia (Mrs. James A.) Podhajsky. Anna died on August 11, 1939 and J.K. on July 25, 1957. William J. was born in Carroll Township on November 7, 1890. He farmed in Crystal Township and never married. He died on March 26, 1971. Vencil Jacob (known as Jim) was born in Carroll Township on July 23, 1895. He attended country school in Perry Township and then began farming with his father on the Hanus family farm southwest of Traer. On February 22, 1927 at Tama, Vencil married Anna Louise Kaufman. Anna was the daughter of Joseph Fred and Rose Blanche Hala Kaufman. They had six children: Donald G., Dorothy (Mrs. Donald) Pecenka, Melvin (deceased), Leonard (deceased), Stanley and Gary. For many years Vencil served as director of Perry Township Schools. Vencil died September 15, 1985. Anna still lives on the family farm. Albin Frank was born on May 16, 1897 in Carroll Township. He attended Bakers Grove School and then served in the United States Army beginning on September 3, 1918 but was discharged on December 18, 1918 because he experienced the severe flu epidemic. On April 27, 1920 Albin married Mary Ella Dvorak, the daughter of Joseph M. and Anna Husak Dvorak. Mary was born December 25, 1896. They were the parents of four children: Milo (deceased), Edward (deceased), Mildred (Mrs. Ervin) Bohnstengel, and Ervin. Albin's family worked their farm together in Perry Township. Albin died on November 6, 1970. Mary continues to maintain her own home in Traer. On January 14,1901, Charles M. was born in Carroll Township. He married Anna Sophie Suchy, oldest daughter of Joseph and Mary Kuchynka Suchy of Howard Township, on February 17, 1925 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, rural Clutier. Anna was born on May 15, 1902. They made their home on a farm in Section 6, Carroll Township. It was unimproved land when they bought it so Charles erected a full set of buildings on the place. Anna and Charles were the parents of Vernon J., Barbara (Mrs. Robert) Engel, and Marian (Mrs. Harold) Schoonover. Charles served as the director of his school subdistrict, Carroll No. 3 for many years. He was a member of the Z.C.B.J. Lodge of Clutier. After they retired, Charles and Anna built a new home, directly north of their farm, to live in. Their son, Vernon, and his family moved onto the home farm. Today, Anna lives in the same home. Charles died on April 13, 1962. Marjorie was born on June 11, 1904 in Perry Township. She married Amos Kubik on April 22, 1931. Amos, the son of the Frank Kubiks, was born July 30, 1892. For many years he farmed north of Traer in Black Hawk County. They had two daughters: Barbara (Mrs. John) Forbes and Joan (Mrs. Warren) Schrader. Amos died on March 24, 1958 and Marjorie died on June 5, 1958. Barbara died in Cedar Rapids on April 6, 1917. Frank died on December 18, 1921. by Nancy Cibula
