Mustered out Dec 18, 1918, from Base Hospital 130. Albin Hanus was born May 16, 1897 on a farm in Carroll Township, Tama County. He was the son of Frank (born June 15, 1858 - died Dec. 18, 1921) and Barbara (Valenta) Hanus, (born May 25, 1867 - died April 6, 1917). He attended country school at Bakers Grove, Perry Township #2. Albin had 3 brothers, William J. (born November 7, 1890 - died March 26, 1971), Vencil J. (born July 23,1895 - died September 15,1985), Charles, (born January 14,1901 - died Apr. 13,1962), and 2 sisters Anna (Mrs. J.K. Chalupnik (born June 14,1889 - died August 11, 1939), and Marjorie (Mrs. Amos Kubik, (born June 11, 1904 - died June 5, 1958). All spent their childhood days and lived on a farm south west of Traer, Iowa. Albin entered the Army September 4, 1918. He took his training in U.S. Camp Shelby, Mississippi. He served at base hospital as a medic. After a serious influenza outbreak, training was halted and he was discharged after 3 1/2 months of service from Camp Dodge, Iowa on December 18, 1918, as a private. On April 27, 1920 he married Mary Dvorak (born December 25, 1894) daughter of Joseph M. (born February 9, 1868 - died January 13,1958) and Anna (Husak) Dvorak (born September 14, 1870 - died March 1, 1961), formerly of Vining, Iowa area. Albin and Mary were married April 27, 1920 at Holy Trinity Church, Otter Creek Twp., Tama County. Albin and Mary farmed in Perry Twp. Section 27 Tama County until December of 1961, then retired to 609 5th St. Traer, Iowa. There were the following children all born in Perry Township, Section 27. Mylo A. (born April 8, 1921 - died September 11, 1921), Edward Wesley (born September 24, 1922 - died May 31, 1973), Mildred Frances (Mrs. Ervin Bohnstengel) (born March 9,1924 and Ervin Joseph, (born September 13, 1932). Albin was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Clutier, Iowa and St. Paul Catholic Traer, Iowa. He was a 50 year member in March of 1969 of the American Legion Kubik-Finch Post #142 of Traer. Albin died November 6,1970 in St. Francis Hospital, Waterloo, Iowa of hardening of arteries and heart attack. He was buried on November 9, 1970 in St. Vaclav Cemetery Rural Clutier, Iowa with military graveside services by the Kubik-Finch Post #142 American Legion of Traer, Iowa. Mrs. Albin (Mary Dvorak) Hanus, 609 Fifth Street, Traer, grandmother of ten and great-grandmother of nine, celebrated her 90th birthday on Christmas Day, 1984. Her children are Ervin Joseph Hanus, Traer, and Mildred (Hanus) Bohnstengel, Clutier. She was also the mother of Edward W. Hanus, Dysart, who died May 31, 1973, and Milo, deceased in infancy. Mary's husband, Albin Hanus, died November 6, 1970.
