Services were held 11 a.m. Friday, June 27th, at the Moville United Methodist Church, with Rev. Harold E. Werley officiating. Burial followed in Oak Hill Cemetery, Anthon, Iowa, under direction of Christy-Smith McCulloch Chapel in Moville. Fred Albert Sands, also called "Fritz", was born April 12, 1910, in Danbury, Iowa, the son of John Henry and Anna (Byer) Sands. He was the third of eleven children. He grew up and was educated in Miller Township Country School in Anthon, Iowa. On April 12, 1937, he married Catherine Margarethe Ketelsen in Sioux City, Iowa, at the court house. The couple farmed in the Anthon and Moville communities. They then moved to Moville in 1973, still continuing farming. His son, Fred Jr. and his family, moved to the farm. Catherine died June 1, 1994. He was a member of Moville United Methodist Church. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing, working with the soil and visiting with people. Survivors include three sons and their wives, Chris and Kathryn Sands of Schleswig, Iowa, John J. and Beverly Sands of Naples, Florida, and Fred L. and Sharon Sands Jr. of Moville; a daughter and her husband, Catherine and Ernest Trampe of Dunn Center, North Dakota; two brothers and their wives, Walter and Vivian Sands of Butterfield, Minnesota, and John and Darlene Sands of Moville; two sisters, Frieda Paulsen of Sioux City and Mary Ketelsen of Smithland, Iowa; 13 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, two great-stepgrandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Annie Bolte; five brothers, Albert, John "Oscar", Louie, Rudolph and an infant brother; and a great-grandchild, Andrea Sands.
