ARMSTRONG Fred B. Armstrong, 69, local plasterer for 40 years, died suddenly at his home, 608 West Mechanic street, at 5:10 a.m. today. The son of Bert and Maria Armstrong, he was born at Memphis, Mo., August 10, 1874. Survivors include his wife, Margaret; a son, Fred Armstrong, Jr., Ottumwa; four daughters, Mrs. Blanche Hill [sic], Mrs. Goldie Benedict, Mrs. Pearl Porter and Mrs. Lola Brewer, all of Ottumwa; eight grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Delia McCary, Los Angeles, Calif. He was preceded in death by three children. The body was removed to the Johnson funeral chapel pending arrangements. “ARMSTRONG FUNERAL,” From “Ottumwa Courier,” March 4, 1944: Funeral services for Fred B. Armstrong, who died early Friday at his home, 608 West Mechanic street, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday from the Johnson funeral chapel in charge of the Rev. A.D. McClure. Burial will be in Shaul cemetery.
