Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Christian church. Rev. C.J. Askins will conduct the rites. Ted Grassi will sing with Mrs. Fred Wallace as the accompanist. Interment will be in Highland Park cemetery. The body is at the Brenner funeral home. Death came at 3 o'clock, following (an) illness (of) six months. He underwent an operation in Kansas City (in) February, returned home in March but was taken back to the hospital in June but was dismissed July 9. The death climaxed some 39 years of duty in the district as an auctioneer. "Colonel" Fred Muse, 69, well-known auctioneer of the district for nearly 40 years, died at 3 a.m. yesterday at his home on Langdon Lane. He had been ill for the past six months. He was operated on in Kansas City last February. He returned home in March and was again taken to the hospital in June. He was dismissed July 9. Born at Clinton, Mo., March 8, 1888, Mr. Muse came to the district in 1908 and settled on a farm eight miles southwest of Pittsburg. He attended rural school at Surprise country school near the family farm. Known As "Colonel" In 1920 he became an auctioneer. He graduated from the Missouri School of Auctioneering and since that time carried the title of "colonel." In addition to his auctioneering activities, he was a farmer. Active also in the insurance business, Mr. Muse had operated the Muse Insurance Agency for the past 29 years. The office is in his home. Mr. Muse was married Aug. 3, 1909 to Miss Dolly May Montee. During World War II he was active in bond sales. Mr. Muse was a member of the Baptist church in Clinton. He also held memberships in the Masonic lodge at Cherokee, Pittsburg Chamber of Commerce and the Langdon Anti-Thief Association. Moved in 1938 The Muses moved to the Langdon Lane home in 1938. Surviving are the widow of the home; one son, Roy Muse, 523 West Kansas; one daughter, Mrs. Edith Sullivan, Los Angeles; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild; a sister, Mrs. Dora Vestal, Pittsburg R.R. 2; two brothers, Harry Muse, Pittsburg R.R. 2, and Leonard Muse, Girard R.R. 3, and a half-sister, Mrs. Faye Watts, 1807 South Locust.
