Frank E Martin died at his home two miles west of Axtell on Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 3, 1902, after a short illness of about two weeks. His ailment was lung fever. Frank E Martin died at his home two miles west of Axtell on Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 3, 1902, after a short illness of about two weeks. His ailment was lung fever. Mr. Martin was born at Nevada, Iowa, May 31, 1860, where he grew to manhood and lived till about five years ago, when he came to Kansas seeking a location for the benefit of his wife’s health, who was a sufferer from consumption. He settled on a farm near Beattie, where his wife died about four years ago, leaving three children, Fred E., Chloe and Roy. His first wife’s maiden name was Miss Mollie Bell, and they were married at Nevada, Iowa, about fourteen years ago. On April 25, 1900, Mr. Martin Married Mrs. Ella Daniel, of Hollandale, Miss., at Kansas City, and Mr. Martin and his wife then moved to a farm two miles west of Axtell which he had purchased shortly before. No children were born to the second union. Besides his wife an d children Mr. Martin leaves a mother who lived with her son Chas. H. Martin at Winchester, Kansas. In the death of Mr. Martin the community looses a true and upright citizen—a man whom any man would be pleased to call his friend. He was a member in good standing of the Axtell lodge of Knights of Pythias, which order made arrangements for the funeral and burial. The funeral services were held this morning at the Presbyterian church at to o’clock, conducted by Rev. Currie, and the remains were interred in the Axtell cemetery—Axtell Anchor. Mr. Martin was well known and respected among the people of Beattie and north west of town where he lived. He had made arrangements to purchase the farm owned by Frank Goldsberry and would have again become a citizen of this community had not death cut him off.
