Smith and his wife Henrietta, nee Echtenkamp, was born September 15, 1894. Mr. Smith moved to Furnace County with his parents when an infant and returned to this community when he was about 15 years old, and where he resided for the remainder of his life. He was received into communion with the Triune God by the Sacrament of Holy Baptism and, having been instructed in the chief doctrines of the Christian religion, was received as a communicant member of the Lutheran church, by the rite of confirmation on May 9, 1909. He served nine months overseas during the First World War. The departed entered the holy estate of matrimony with Miss Pauline Dickmeyer on August 19, 1928. He fell asleep in Jesus Saturday, June 28, 1947, having attained the age of 52 years, 9 months and 13 days. The deceased is survived by his widow as well as two brothers, William and Harry, and two sisters, Mrs. Anna Giesselman and Mrs. Louise Wallingford. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 at the home and 2:00 o’clock at St. Paul’s Lutheran church with Pastor Carl Hellmann officiating. Interment took place in St. Paul’s Cemetery. The American Legion color guard sounded taps at the grave. The following served as pallbearers: Messrs.
