The funeral was held at the home on Riverside Avenue East Sunday afternoon, Rev. Dr. E. Lewis Wall pastor of the Methodist church, officiating. The Odd Fellows attended in large numbers, Mr. McDonald having been a charter member of Pioneer Lodge, No. 77 and also a member of the other Odd Fellow bodies. There was a wealth of Flowers on and about the casket. Among them was a wreath from the Congregational church, of which the deceased had long been an exemplary member. Also a wreath from the Odd Fellows, besides numerous other beautiful flowers from friends. The pallbearers were four Odd Fellow friends — C. L. McDougal, Herbert W. Varney, Albert D. Webster and Simeon Nightingale. Interment was made in Riverside Cemetery. Mr. McDonald came to Fort Fairfield 49 or 50 years ago, from Monticello, where he lived when he married Mrs. Susan McDougal Anderson of Ashland, a sister to Alexander McDougal of Fort Fairfield. There were no children born of this marriage, though Mrs. McDonald had two children by her first marriage. Mrs. McDonald died early in 1907. On Christmas day, 1907 Mr. McDonald was married to Mrs. Eliza A. Nickerson Barker, who survives. During quite a part of his lifetime in Fort Fairfield Mr. McDonald was a potato buyer. In his early life he was a soldier in the Union army, joining in February 1862, and being discharged three years and five months later, when he was a corporal in the Maine cavalry. He was always a faithful and interested member of Kilpatrick Post No. 61, Grand Army of the Republic, whose members all over the United States, as well as in this region, are now falling Iike autumn leaves. Mr. McDonald was always a gentleman, and what more needs to be said about any man? He was always right living, quiet, neighborly, accommodating, and pleasant, being of a social and companionable disposition which made and held friends readily. A host of old friends will long remember happily one they have known so long and rejoice that he was allowed to round out a full and successful life of more than four score years.
