Read More	Johnson County (Nebraska) Courier, 19 Aug 1948, page 1 Fred Meints Has Gone to Rest FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD FRIDAY AFTERNOON After months of failing health, Fred Meints passed away at nine o'clock Tuesday morning, Aug. 17, 1948, at the home of his son Albert Meints, near Elk Creek. Early this year Mr. Meints began to fail in health, and in March he entered the hospital at Tecumseh for a week. He rallied from his illness for a short time, then suffered a relapse and was taken to the Lutheran hospital at Beatrice where he spent almost two months. Everything possible was done for him there and after he had improved sufficiently to leave the hospital, he went to the home of his daughter, Mrs. Edgar Kuhl, for two weeks and from there he went to the home of his son Albert, where his remaining weeks of life were spent. Fred, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Meints, was born Sept. 4, 1874, in Gage county, Nebr. He was baptized Sept. 10, 1874, by Pastor M. Martens and on March 26, 1894, he was confirmed at Zion Lutheran church at Meinert, Mo., by Pastor A. W. Frese. On March 4, 1900, Mr. Meints was united in marriage with Miss Anna Katrena Hinrichs at Virginia, Mo. To them were born four children one of whom, a daughter Marie, preceded her father in death in January 1944. Mr. Meints spent his life farming, then six years ago he and his wife came to Sterling to make their home. Mr. Meints was a member of the Lutheran church at Timber Creek then later he became a member of St. John American Lutheran church here where he served faithfully until called from his earthly tasks. He was always kind to his family and friends and will be missed by all who knew him. He attained the age of seventy-three years, eleven months, and thirteen days. Besides his wife, Mr. Meints is survived by one son Albert, of Elk Creek; two daughters Elizabeth (Mrs. Edgar Kuhl) of Elk Creek and Margaret (Mrs. Arie Bax) of Greenfield, Iowa; eleven grandchildren; one great-grandson; five brothers and five sisters. To all is extended deep sympathy in their bereavement. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 1:30 from his late home, and 2:00 o'clock in St. John American Lutheran church in Sterling. Pastor John Voelk will have charge of the services. Burial will be in the Timber Creek cemetery with Rev. Wm. Fruehling, former pastor and close friend of Mr. Meints, in charge of the committal service.
