Description	:	OLUMBIA Fred Miller Murff died Wednesday, March 6, 2013. He was the son of the late Warren Clyde Murff and Ida Lilly Celestia McClain. Fred attended Erskine College and was employed by Riegel Textile. He then married Miriam Harrison of Simpsonville, S.C. After starting their lives and family in Johnston and then Newberry, S.C., where he owned The Fashion, they moved to Columbia where Fred joined Tapp's as a buyer and executive Vice President staying for three decades. He was the son of the late Warren Clyde Murff and Ida Lilly Celestia McClain. Fred attended Erskine College and was employed by Riegel Textile. He then married Miriam Harrison of Simpsonville, S.C. After starting their lives and family in Johnston and then Newberry, S.C., where he owned The Fashion, they moved to Columbia where Fred joined Tapp's as a buyer and executive Vice President staying for three decades. He was an active member of First Baptist Church, serving in many capacities. Some of his closest friends were the Colson Sunday School Class members. Fred worked with the homeless and the internationals, sharing his outgoing, vibrant personality. Surviving are his daughters and sons-in-law, Candy and Walter George, Mindy and Gordon Oltman; four grandchildren, Ali and Summer Oltman, Casey and Drake George, all of Columbia. Fred is also survived by brother, Nick Murff (June) of Aiken and sister, Cecil Gable of Greenwood. He was predeceased by his brothers, Ralph Drake of Greenville and Howard Drake of Ware Shoals, as well as, his sister, Genie Latimer of Donalds, S.C. Fred was loved by so many and will be sorely missed. Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church, Boyce Chapel, Columbia, Sunday, March 10, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. conducted by the Reverend Dennis Banks. Visitation will also be in Boyce Chapel immediately following the service. A private burial will be held after the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Palmetto Health Hospice, PO Box 100199, Department 274, Columbia SC 29202. NOTE: Buried near Irmo, SC.
