Description	:	Fred Johnson, for more than twenty years a resident of this community, died at his home in the northeast part of town shortly before 6 o'clock last Friday afternoon. His death was due to an abscess on the brain and followed an immediate illness of but brief duration although he had suffered for years with ear trouble and his final attack was undoubtedly an outgrowth of the old trouble. He was seized with an intense headache early last Thursday morning and during the forenoon lapsed into unconsciousness from which he never recovered although everything possible was done to relieve him.... He failed steadily until the end came late Friday afternoon. Funeral services were held at the home at 1:30 Monday afternoon and at the Lutheran church in this city at 2 o'clock, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Geo. Steinkamp. Interment was made in Grace Hill cemetery. Fred Unke Johnson was born in Germany March 8, 1881, so was just a little past 45 years of age. He came with his parents to the United States when 12 years old. The family located at Ireton where his parents still reside. He grew to young manhood at Ireton and then farmed in this community for a number of years, later moving to town and most of the time since then has been employed in the Northwestern round house. He was united in marriage in 1912 with Delphia Goodrich. This union was blessed with six children, four girls and two boys, the youngest child being but three weeks old. Besides the sorrowing wife and children he is survived by his aged parents, Mr. and Mrs. Onno Johnson of Ireton, three brothers, Henry and Harry Johnson of Ireton and Edward Johnson of Alcester, and one sister, Mrs. Rudolph Klave, residing east of Hawarden. He was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in his boyhood and continued a member of the church throughout his life. His death is particularly sad as it leaves his widow and large family of little children in meagre circumstances. The sympathy of the community goes out to them in their great sorrow.
