Read More	LeMars Semi Weekly Sentinel, LeMars, Plymouth, Iowa, USA Tuesday, April 3, 1928 IRETON PIONEER TAKEN BY DEATH ONNO JOHNSON, OLD RESIDENT, PASSES AWAY AFTER LINGERING ILLNESS Onno Johnson, a pioneer of Ireton vicinity, who was well known by a number of Plymouth county residents, died at his home in Ireton Thursday following a lingering illness. The deceased had been failing in health since a month following the death of his wife. At times he seemed better and was able to work about his home. Onno Johnson, who was a son of Etta and Onno Johnson, was born in Ostfriesland. Kreis Emden Upleward, Germany. August 10, 1836. At the time of his death he had attained the ripe old age of 81 years, 7 months and 19 days. He received his schooling in Germany, and later worked as a farm hand. In March 1869, he was united in marriage with Miss Sophia Meyer, at Groothusen, Germany. To this happy union eight children were born. An infant son passed away and was buried in the native land. In the year 1893 the family came over to America and settled on a farm west of Ireton. They lived on various farms, and in the year 1909, they moved to Ireton to retire from their labors. Mrs. Johnson passed from this life September 13, 1927, and soon after Mr. Johnson began to fail in health. The deceased is survived by four children, one daughter, Mrs. Rudolph Klave, of Hawarden. and three sons, Ed Johnson, of Alcester. S. D., and Henry and Harry, of Ireton. Four children preceded him in death, three sons, the infant son who died in Germany, Onno Jr.. who died at Hawarden August 18, 1919, Fred, who died at Hawarden May 14, 1926. and one daughter, Mrs. Herman Mellies. of Ireton, who died in a Sioux City hospital in December, 1907. Thirty grandchildren are living. The funeral services were held Sunday at St. Paul's Lutheran church, Ireton, the pastor, Rev. J. Rich Schmidt, officiating. Obit sent by: J. Hetrick
