Description	:	Fred W Schultz, 89, passed away at the Marengo hospital Thursday evening after an illness of almost four months. Mr. Schultz was born October 4, 1895 in Bock, Mecklenburg, Germany, the son of the late John and Marie Schultz. He was baptized in infancy, and attended the public schools, and late was confirmed and received in the membership of the Lutheran church. Mr. Schultz was born October 4, 1895 in Bock, Mecklenburg, Germany, the son of the late John and Marie Schultz. He was baptized in infancy, and attended the public schools, and late was confirmed and received in the membership of the Lutheran church. In 1884 he came to America with relatives and settled in Iowa County. He was married to Marie Roggentine on May 17, 1887. They lived on farms in Iowa County, throughout their entire married life. In 1888 Mr. Schultz became one of the charter members of the Zion Reformed church, helping construct the present building and retaining his membership until death. Since the death of his wife in January, 1945, he had made his home with his son and daughter in law. He loved the outdoors and farm life and was happiest when he could be of some help in the garden or do some of the smallest tasks he was still able to do. He was strong and very active until his illness. Mr. Schultz is survived by four children, Carl of near Millersburg, Mrs. Ed Koehn of Marengo, Mrs. Clate Gerard of Iowa City, and Mrs. William Schueler of Cedar Rapids. He also leaves 17 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, on daughter, Mrs. Alma Smith, and two sons John and Henry. Casket bearers, all grandsons were Ronald Koehn, Harold Koehn, Otis Schultz, Virgil Schultz, Dean Gerard and Leonard Smith. Burial was in the Zion Cemetery.
