Mrs. Freda Mae Hiatt Hawks, 74, of 143 Poteat Rd., Mount Airy, passed away Saturday, Jan. 29, 2011, at the Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mrs. Hawks was born Nov. 22, 1936, in Surry County to the late Howard and Maggie Hall Hiatt. She retired after many years of service from AAA Drug Store. Mrs. Hawks was a member of The Shelton Church of the Brethren. Mrs. Freda Mae Hiatt Hawks, 74, of 143 Poteat Rd., Mount Airy, passed away Saturday, Jan. 29, 2011, at the Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mrs. Hawks was born Nov. 22, 1936, in Surry County to the late Howard and Maggie Hall Hiatt. She retired after many years of service from AAA Drug Store. Mrs. Hawks was a member of The Shelton Church of the Brethren. Surviving are her husband Mr. Wilbur Hawks of the home; one daughter and son-in-law Lisa and Rick York of Mount Airy; two sons and daughters-in-law Lane and Bonnie Hawks of Mount Airy and Brent and Robin Hawks of Boonville; eight grandchildren and spouses Julie and Matthew Newton of Raleigh, Joni Seivers of Wilmington, Lindsay and Jonathan Stanley of Mooresville, Engle and Brian Balzer of Charlotte, Kellye York of Mount Airy, Jared and Amy Hawks of Boonville, Allison Hawks of Baton Rouge, La., and Kaitlyn Hawks of Boonville; two great-grandchildren Laila Hawks of Boonville and Mattison Newton of Raleigh; and two brothers and sisters-in-law R.J. and Betty Hiatt, Russell and Addie Hiatt and Parabell Hiatt all of Mount Airy. In addition to her parents Mrs. Hawks was preceded in death by two brothers Porter Hiatt and Wendell Hiatt. Funeral services will be held Monday, Jan. 31, 2011, at 11 a.m. at the Shelton Church of the Brethren with services conducted by the Rev. Ted Turner with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 10 a.m. until the time for the service at the Shelton Church of the Brethren. The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at the Woltz Hospice Home for all the love and care given to Mrs. Hawks while under their care.
