Pallbearers were Keith Hickey, Randy Hickey, Loren Johnson Jr., Robert Geieger, Max Cupp and Gary Moles. Honorary pallbearers were Clyde Van Scyoc, Archie Boldra, EL Boldra, Maurice McCartney, Curt Reed and Gerald Cloyed. Frederic Wayne Pierson, son of Nora Albert Pierson and Daisy Dell Pierson, was born on a farm west of Sidney on January 5, 1897. He lived and helped on the family farm until his marriage to Mary Mabel Cook on January 25, 1918. To this union two sons were born, Merritt Wayne and James Kenneth. In the early days of his marriage, Wayne farmed until he went to work for the county in 1929. While with the county he became a foreman at the county rock quarry north of Thurman. In 1941, Wayne and his wife moved to Cherokee, IA, where they were both employed at the state hospital for many years. Upon his retirement in 1961, Wayne and Mabel returned to Fremont County and settled in Thurman where they spent the remainder of their years. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Hayden Pierson, and his wife Mabel. Surviving him are two sons, Merritt Wayne of Oskaloosa and James Kenneth of Thurman; four sisters: Goldie Booten of Sidney, Inez Ramsey of Shenandoah, Mildred Fredrickson of Shenandoah, and Dorothy Zach of Sidney. Also surviving him are three grandsons and many, many friends. Memorials are to go to the Tabor Rescue Unit or the Thurman Methodist Church.
