Return of Hainings Slayer from British Columbia Dec. 7--On yesterday's train, bound south, was Sheriff Jones of Dillon, having in charge Winslow D. Morgan, whom he brought from Victoria, British Columbia, where he was arrested by the police. The crime for which he was wanted is a peculiar one, showing all the phases of a family quarrel and the breaking up of marital relations. Morgan had been married for some years when he and his wife separated, after which she married Fred Haining. During last winter Morgan swore out a complaint that had both Haining and his wife arrested under the Montana statute which prohibits the marriage of first cousins, but when the preliminary examination was held, the prisoners were discharged. On the morning of the 5th of July last, about daylight, Hanning and his wife were returning from a ball in a wagon, when they were fired upon from an ambush, as is supposed, by Morgan, and Hanning was killed and a little child on his wife's lap lost a leg from the effects of the same bullet. Morgan immediately left the country, and a reward of $1,000 was offered by the Governor for his arrest. Sheriff Jones obtained one of Morgan's photographs and had a large number stricken off and flooded the country with them. Knowing that he had formerly resided in Victoria, several were sent to that city, and in a few weeks he received a telegram announcing Morgan's arrest.
