Last August Mr. Peters suffered a stroke of paralysis and since that time he had been nearly helpless. He bore his suffering with commendable fortitude and patience, but when a second stroke attacked him on the 26th of June this year his system was unable to withstand the shock and he passed away to a far better home than this on earth. Mr Peters was a pioneer settler of this county, coming here in 1876. He followed the avocations of farming and carpentering. In the many years that he had resided here he had won for himself a host of friends who grieve at his death. He was a hard-working, honest man who enjoyed the love and respect of all who knew him. Frederick Bernard Peters was born in Jever, Germany, April 9, 1838. In 1867 he was married to Miss Hermine Onken and to this union were born six children. The surviving children of this respected pioneer citizen are as follows: Mrs. Roehse, of Manning, Mrs. G. Gerdes, of Lookeba, Oklahoma; Fred, of Keithsburg, Illinois; Mrs. C. Launspach, of Glidden; Mrs. W. Arneil of Carroll; Mrs. H. Gerdes, of Hinton, Oklahoma; Carl, of Breda; and Herman, Minnie and Agnes who are at home with their mother. Mrs. Helena Launchpach, a daughter, passed away some time ago. The funeral services were held from the house, conducted by Rev. Coe, of Lanesboro, and the remains were laid away in the Carroll cemetery. A large number of mourning friends were in respectful attendance. The sympathy of the community is with the bereaved mother and children in their sorrow.
