Funeral services were held at the Paton Methodist Church at 2:30 P. M. Sunday afternoon and were in charge of the Rev. C. A. Carlson. Burial was made in the Paton Township Cemetery. Frederick C. Klippel, son of Henry and Catherine Klippel, was born in Utica, New York State, March 12, 1861. During the past year he had been in failing health and passed away December 8, 1939. Mr. Klippel had reached the age of 78 years, 8 months and 26 days. He came to Iowa from New York state with his parents when he was six years old. There he grew to young manhood and was married to Clara Simmer. Soon after. their marriage they came to the Paton locality, where they engaged in farming north of town. Four daughters were born to them: Mrs. Emma Young of Carroll, Mrs. Jennie Lieb of Atkins, Mrs. Ida Schwarz of Gowrie and Mrs. Susie Lieb of Fairfax. The wife and mother passed away in 1890. On November 29,1893, Mr. Klippel was married to Della Rayner of Mount Vernon, Iowa. They resided on the farm for about seven years after which time they purchased a general mercantile store in Lena. For the past thirty-nine years the store has been operated by Mr. and Mrs. Klippel until about a year ago when they retired from active business life. A son, Clyde, of Cable, Wisconsin, and two daughters, Mrs. Birdie Hansen of Paton and Mrs. Rogene Roberts of Davenport, Iowa, were born to Mr. and Mrs. Klippel. An infant daughter preceded him in death. In young manhood Mr. Klippel united with the New Jerusalem Church in Benton County. He leaves surviving his wife, the son, and daughters, thirteen grandchildren, three great grandchildren, two sisters: Mrs. Susan Pirie and Mrs. Jennie Fox, both of Paton; a brother, Henry Klippel of Iowa Falls, other relatives and many friends. A brother, Silas Klippel, and four sisters: Alice Pirie, Anna Reider, Emma Crouch and Lydia Batcheller, preceded him in death. He was a friend to children and greatly endeared himself to them.
