OBITUARY; Nevada Journal Fred Emerson, son of Sebra and Louisa Emerson, was born seven miles north of Ames, Iowa, on March 5, 1870. He died on Wednesday noon, May 10, 1939, after an illness of several months, at the age of 69 years, 2 months and 5 days. On November 19, 1890 he was united in marriage to Carrie Huffman, also of Story county, Iowa, and to this union were born three children: one son, Glen Emerson, living near by where the parents lived, southeast of Ames, Mrs. Elva Adamson of near Pleasantville, Iowa and Mrs. Nora Evans of Nevada. Mr. Emerson grew to manhood seven miles north of Ames, and the first two years of married life were spent in Buena Vista county. They returned in 1893, where the remaining 46 years were spent tilling the soil of Story county. He was one of the old pioneer farmers of this part of Iowa, and all but five years were lived in the Shipley neighborhood, where all his children grew up, married and lived in this Shipley community for a number of years, and five of his eight grandchildren have graduated from the Shipley high school. In late life he was converted and baptized into the Christian faith, and died victoiously and triumphantly in his faith in Christ and His saving power. His parents, six brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. Surviving him are widow, three children, eight grandchildren and one great grandchild, a brother Myren Emerson of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, who was unable to be present, a number of nephews and nieces and a great host of friends. Mr. Emerson was a man of fine upright character, a good neighbor and a kind and loving husband and father.
