Emerson, 87, of Nevada, passed away Thursday at 10 p.m. in the Gilmore Nursing Home, where she had been a patient the past five years. Carrie Emerson, daughter of Peter and Priscilla Huffman, was born in Princeton, Ill., Jan. 21, 1872. On Nov. 19, 1890 she was united in marriage to Fred Emerson, also of Story county and to this union were born three children, one son Glen, and two daughters, Elva and Nora. The first two years of married life was spent in Buena Vista county. They returned to Story county in 1893, making their home on a farm near Shipley, where their family was raised, and continued to live. Mrs. Emerson was one of the old pioneers of the soil in this part of Iowa. In late life Mrs. Emerson and husband were converted and baptised into the Christian faith. Those who preceded her in death were the husband, Fred Emerson, only son, Glen, and three grandchildren. Surviving her are two daughters, Mrs. Elva Adamson and Mrs. Nora Evans of Nevada, a daughter-in-law, Mrs Effie Emerson of Ames, four sisters, Mrs. Lena Oxley, Mrs. John Ernest of Nevada, Mrs. Elmer Taylor and Mrs. Violet Shearer of Ames. She also leaves seven grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, a host of relatives and friends.
