The pallberers were: Connie Grigsby Joseph Tonasela, Silvlo Tonasela, Ralph Horne, Chester Viney and Jack Forrester." - The Napa Daily Register (October 5, 1926) "Yountille Resident is Victim of Accident - Remained Out All Night - Death Due to Shock and Exposure Fred Virchaux, 26, a well-known young man of Yountville, died at St. Gothard's Hospital in St. Helena, Sunday night about midnight following an automobile accident on the highway a short distance south of St. Helena Saturday night. An autopsy held by Coroner W. J. Blake today showed that death was due to shock more than to any actual injuries sustained in the accident. Arthur Bauman, 18, a Yountville boy, who accompanied Virchaux on the fatal drive, sustained a dislocated shoulder and is now under treatment in a hospital in Napa. Virchaux left his home in Yountville late last Saturday night with Bauman in Bauman's car for a drive to St. Helena. Near Zinfandel station the car veered off the highway, jumped a ditch, struck a fence and fell back into the ditch. Both young men were thrown clear. Bauman sustained a dislocated shoulder and wandered off down the highway in a dazed condition to be later picked up and taken to his home in Yountville. Virchaux sustained a bad cut on the back of his head and was stunned by the crash. He lay beside the car unconscious all night. In the morning he was discovered and was rushed to the hospital in St. Helena. He seemed in fairly good condition and his death which came at midnight Sunday night was unexpected. It is believed, as stated above, that shock and exposure caused his death. The fatal accident is being carefully probed by Sheriff Harris, District Attorney Anglim and Coroner Blake. Fred Virchaux was to have married Miss Bess Pianetta of Yountville on Wednesday of this. The deceased was the son of Mrs. Rose Virchaux of Yountville and was a native of that locality. The surviving brothers and sister are Mrs. Ray Huyek of Napa, Miss Aleide Virchaux of Oakland, George Virchaux of San Jose and Mrs. John Cassidy of Yountville. The remains have been brought to the D.C. Treadway chapel. The funeral will be held tomorrow (Tuesday) afternoon at 2:20 o'clock." - The Napa Daily Register (October 4, 1926) "DEATH CLAIMS F.L. VIRCHAUX AFTER VALLEY AUTO WRECK Injuries Sustained in Accident at Midnight on Saturday Prove Fatal. Apparently the victim of an auto-mobile accident which is believed to have occurred about midnight Saturday on the highway to the south of St. Helena, Frederick Theodore Virchaux, 27, lay unconscious under the Machine until he was found Sunday morning. He was rushed to St. Gothard's Hospital and died there at midnight Sunday. Because of the circumstances surrounding the fatality an autopsy was ordered by Coroner William J. Blake yesterday and this revealed that Virchaux's death resulted from shock and exposure, rather than the actual injuries sustained in the accident. Arthur Bauman, 18, companion of Virchaux on the fatal automobile ride, was also injured, sustained a dislocated shoulder. He was found wandering in a dazed condition near the scene of the accident. When the first news of the accident was reported to the sheriff's office, Sheriff Harris and District Attorney Anglim launched an investigation because conflicting reports were circulated. It had been stated that it was believed that Virchaux had been fatally injured in being struck on the head, but the probe has so far fallen to reveal anything of that nature. Frederick Theodore Virchaux was 27 years of age, widely known and highly popular through the valley and especially at Yountville, where he had resided. On Wednesday he was to have been married to Miss Bessie Planetia. The shock of his death, which occurred six years to the day after his father died and but a few days before his own birthday anniversary, has prostrated members of his family and cast a cloud of sorrow over all Yountville. The funeral will he conducted from the D. C. Treadway Company chapel here this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Blake. The inquiry was to have been held last night but was put over a day by the coroner in order that additional witnesses could be on hand." -The Napa Journal (October 6, 1926) "Fred Virchaux of Yountville was killed when his machine was wrecked early Sunday morning near the roadside. His skull was fractured. His companion, George Borman, also of Yountville, was found wandering in a dazed manner some distance from the wreck. The accident happened just below St. Helena.
