The funeral was held on Thursday at the Strackbein residence and at the Midway church, of which congregation he was a member. The ministers in charge of the funeral and burial were Rev. Hoemann of Battle Creek and Rev. Gottberg of Midway. Fred Strackbein was a widely known man, carried the respect of everyone and will be sadly missed in the community where he lived so long. He was one of eight men who purchased the Midway cemetery and was an ardent booster and supporter of the two Midway Lutheran churches. Frederick Strackbein was born at Wunderhausen, Germany, in 1859, and died at Battle Creek, Iowa, August 26, 1924, at the age of 65 years. He was married to Lucia Brodersen October 23, 1890. To this union four children were born, Arnold L., Thomas H. and Mrs. Dora Hamann and Mrs. Amanda Hamann, all of Battle Creek. Besides the children he leaves to mourn his death his loving and devoted wife, seven grandchildren and one brother, George, of Sioux City.
