Description	:	Frederick J. "Tex" Gordon, 94, of Hastings, Nebraska, died Tuesday, March 9, 2004 at his home. Tex was born September 20, 1909 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to John W & Mary (Galvin) Gordon. Tex graduated from St. Gabriel's Catholic School in Philadelphia. He was a foreman for Mid West Construction out of Houston, Texas, who contracted to build Naval Ammunition Depots. He supervised the movement of their fleet of 15 semi-trucks moving supplies and equipment to their building sites in Arkansas, Illinois and lastly, Hastings, Nebraska. He served in the United States Army during WWII from October 25, 1943 until November... Read More	Frederick J. "Tex" Gordon, 94, of Hastings, Nebraska, died Tuesday, March 9, 2004 at his home. Tex was born September 20, 1909 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to John W & Mary (Galvin) Gordon. Tex graduated from St. Gabriel's Catholic School in Philadelphia. He was a foreman for Mid West Construction out of Houston, Texas, who contracted to build Naval Ammunition Depots. He supervised the movement of their fleet of 15 semi-trucks moving supplies and equipment to their building sites in Arkansas, Illinois and lastly, Hastings, Nebraska. He served in the United States Army during WWII from October 25, 1943 until November 4, 1945. He was attached to the 104th Infantry Division, 385th Field Artillery. He was pulled for temporary duty to drive on the "Red Ball Express" that supplied fuel to Patton's 3rd Army. He served in continuous front line combat for 195 days from September 7, 1944 to May 9, 1945, during which time his unit helped break the German Siegfried Line and fought its way across Germany to link up with the Russian Army at the Elba River. On February 2, 1946, he married Alice L. Hinrichs in Marysville, Kansas. They moved to Holdrege, Nebraska in 1949 where he owned and operated the Hi-Way Motor Freight until 1969. He then worked for Becton Dickinson, did framing for General Glass and was an artist, all in Holdrege. In 1979, they moved to Hastings, Nebraska. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, west of Glenvil, Nebraska, American Legion and V.F.W. He was a past commander of the V.F.W. in Holdrege, Nebraska. Tex was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Margaret Werner, Frances McCutcheon, Josephine Jurenas and Catherine Penman and brothers, David, John G., Joseph, James, Thomas, John C. and Charles Gordon, all of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
