Friederich Heiderstadt was born in Germany September 19, 1819, and departed this life at his home in Geneva, Neb., at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 3, 1914 aged 95 years and 14 days. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church and did military service in his native land. At the age of twenty-nine years be emigrated to America, settling in Connecticut, where he worked at his trade as a miller. He was married at Bridgeport, Conn., to Miss Martha Matthews. Three years later they removed to Sheboygan Falls, Wis., where they lived until 1873, when he removed to Geneva with his family and settled on a homestead in Chelsea township. After living on the farm until 1885, Mr. Heiderstadt and his wife moved to Geneva. In 1890 his wife died. Since then he has made his home with his children. The following children live to mourn his death, one having died in infancy. Mrs. Fannie Voigtlander, Mrs. Martha Putlitz, Henry Heiderstadt, Mrs. Wilhelmina Meyer, Mrs. Sarah Stevens, Mrs. Laura Cameron, all of whom were present at the funeral. Twenty-four grandchildren and twenty-one great grand-children also survive. All of the children reside in this county except Mrs. Stevens, whose home is at Maywood, Neb. The Geneva cemetery was a matter of great personal pride to Mr. Heiderstadt and to him, more than any other man now living, the community is indebted for a fitting and beautiful resting place for the dead. Since coming to Geneva Mr. Heiderstadt had been actively identified with Trinity Episcopal church. Those knowing him well could not fail to be deeply impressed by his strong personality and character and his deep regard for truth, right and justice was one of the many good characteristics remembered by his friends. The funeral took place from Trinity Episcopal church in Geneva at 2:30 Monday afternoon and was conducted by Rev. G. St. G. Tyner, the rector. The interment was in the Geneva cemetery, a place the interests of which he had at heart so many years. Few people live to such an advanced age as did Mr. Heiderstadt and he retained his mental and physical vigor in a remarkable way. For a number of years it was his habit to call on The Signal office occasionally and express his views on matters of public interest. He was a keen observer and shrewd in business matters and always kindly of heart. One of his habits was to call at The Signal office on his birthday each year and pay his subscription and stay for a little visit.
