Description	:	From the Booklet - Zessin 9: Frederick Morris Zessin was born April 15, 1871, in Madison, Nebraska. His early years were spent on the original homestead. He attended Meadow Grove German School for several years as had his sisters. He became a farmer by working on his father's and brother's homesteads. First, settling near Southham for a period of about four years then moving... Read More	From the Booklet - Zessin 9: Frederick Morris Zessin was born April 15, 1871, in Madison, Nebraska. His early years were spent on the original homestead. He attended Meadow Grove German School for several years as had his sisters. He became a farmer by working on his father's and brother's homesteads. On December 3, 1891, Fred married Emelie Henrietta Rathel, also known as Yetta. To this union was born five children. In 1906, they took their family to North Dakota. First, settling near Southham for a period of about four years then moving to a farm near Devils Lake. They raised their children and lived on this farm for many years. Fred became interested in social and civic affairs. He was a member of the Crofton Lodge No. 3, I.O.O.F., and it is believed, he ran for an elected office on the Socialist ticket. After Yetta death, he retired from farming and lived in town. He spend several winters with his younger sister, Alesa in Weldona, Colorado. While visiting his granddaughter in Virginia, Minnesota, he became ill and passed away on May 29, 1955. He is buried in Devils Lake Cemetery. Born April 13, 1871 at Madison, Nebraska. Zessin came to Devils Lake in 1906 where he farm until he retired in 1926. He is survived by four children, Mrs. H. McCann, Chicago, Mrs. Bernard DeBoer, Starkweather, Andrew Zessin, Milton, Ore., Mrs. Ed Vavrick of Norfolk, Nebraska, 13 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren. Mrs. Zessin died in 1933. Zessin was a member of Crofton Lodge I.O.O.F. for 31 years, a member of Mystic Encampment, and financial secretary for many years. Funeral arrangements are pending, awaiting arrival of relatives. Gilbertson's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
