Jan 29, 1946 - Carroll Daily Herald - Frederick Lappe, well-known retired farmer, died at 3:30 this morning at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Frischmeyer, southeast of Carroll. Mr. Lappe, who was 84 years old, had been an invalid for two years. He had suffered a paralytic stroke Dec. 28, 1944. Funeral services are to be at 8:30 Friday morning at SS. Peter and Paul's church, with the Rev. Father Lambert Schenkelberg offering the requiem mass. Burial will be in at the parish cemetery. The body is remaining at the Sharp Funeral home until the time of the rites and may be viewed there by friends after 9 o'clock Wednesday morning. The rosary, led by the Rev. Father Schenkelberg, will be prayed at the funeral home at 8 o'clock Wednesday evening. Members of the Holy Name Society of SS. Peter and Paul's church will attend in a group. Mr. Lappe, son of Arnold and Sadie Lappe, was born in Westphalia, Germany, April 1, 1861. At the age of 16 years he came to the United States and worked as a farmhand in Carroll county for several years. After his marriage to Mary Lappe Hoffman at Roselle in 1883, the couple lived on their Grant township farm for 34 years. They moved into Carroll in 1917 and were living here when Mrs. Lappe died Oct. 18, 1927. Mr. Lappe then made his home with the Frischmeyer family until he was married to Mrs. Mary Stoffel of Carroll in 1930. His second wife died in 1935. Following her death, Mr. Lappe returned to the Frischmeyer home, where he lived from that time forward. The Frischmeyer family resides two miles east, one and one quarter miles south and another mile east of Carroll. Mr. Lappe leaves the following children: Anton Lappe, Bancroft; Mrs. Nick J. Klaus (Catherine), W.J. Lappe, Mrs. Joe Frischmeyer (Elizabeth), and A.F. Lappe, all of Carroll; 30 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. He was the last of a family of eight children, having been preceded in death by one sister and six brothers. His parents died in Westphalia, Germany. Mr. Lappe, a member of SS. Peter and Paul's church, had served on its board of directors for the last 26 years. He also belonged to the Holy Name Society of the parish.
