May 9, 1935 - Carroll Daily Herald - Mrs. Mary Stoffel Lappe, 59 years old, died this morning at St. Anthony hospital at 10 o'clock of liver trouble and complications. Mrs. Lappe was taken to the hospital about three weeks ago where she was to have been operated on, but due to the serious condition she was in it was impossible to operate. Mrs. Lappe had been in a general run down condition since about last November but only within the last few weeks was seriously ill. The body is at the Kircher-Dietrich Funeral Home and will be taken to the Lappe home at 227 South East street tomorrow afternoon. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 9 o'clock at Ss. Peter and Paul church. The Rev. Father Lambert Schenkelberg will read the requiem mass. Interment will be in the family lot in Ss. Peter and Paul cemetery. Mary Schroeder was born on Aug. 22, 1875, the daughter of Catherine and Ferdinand Schroeder at New Vienna, Ia . She accompanied her parents to Carroll county where the family settled on a farm near Arcadia. When a young women, Mrs Lappe became the bride of Paul Stoffel. They were the parents of three children, who are surviving. After living in Arcadia, the couple moved to Elgin, Neb., where they lived for a period of 14 years.They then came to Carroll and moved into the Stoffel house on North Clark street. Paul Stoffel died on March 24, 1928. Mrs. Stoffel became the bride of Fred Lappe on Feb. 22. 1930 at Ss. Peter and Paul church, the Rev. Father Lambert Schenkelberg officiating. Since their marriage they had been living in the Lappe home at 227 South East street. Surviving is her husband, children, (Matilda) Mrs. C.D. Smith of Sioux Falls, S.D., Alvin Stoffel, (Henrietta) Mrs. Peter Auen, of Carroll and one adopted son, Harold Stoffel of Carroll. She has several living sisters and brothers, Henry of Arcadia, Frank, Joe and Ben of Elgin, Neb., Mrs. Joe Eich of Halbur, Mrs. Frank Knobbe of Norfolk, Neb., and Mrs. Charles Albee of Dow City, Ia . Her father, Ferdinend Schroeder, 91 years old, of Elgin, Neb., also survives. Mrs. Lappe was a devout member of Ss. Peter and Paul church. She belonged to the Missionary society and to the Christian Mothers Society.
