He was the son of Carl and Sophia Reuhs Westphal and was born Oct. 23, 1876, Jackson County, Iowa. On Feb. 26,1902, he was married to Anna Ahrendsen at Olin, Iowa. He was the son of Carl and Sophia Reuhs Westphal and was born Oct. 23, 1876, Jackson County, Iowa. On Feb. 26,1902, he was married to Anna Ahrendsen at Olin, Iowa. Four children were born to this union. Mr. Westphal farmed in Jones county in the Wyoming vicinity until 1932 when he retired to the family home in Wyoming. Mrs. Westphal preceded him In death In 1954. Mr. Westphal had been living with his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Clare Westphal for the past 7 1/2 years. He had been in poor health for 3 years and confined to his bed for the last 2 months. He had been a member of Zion American Lutheran church since its early years and served on the church council in the early history of the church. Preceding him in death, besides his wife was an infant daughter and 2 brothers. Surviving are his two daughters Mrs. Malvin Martensen, Wyoming; Mrs. Sydney Holden, Chatham, N.J., and son, Clare Westphal,Wyoming, 6 grandsons and 7 great grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Art Manwiller, Ames, 2 brothers, Henry and John Westphal, Wyoming. Funeral services were held on Sunday, June 12 at the Zion American Lutheran church in Wyoming with Rev. Robert R. Ahrens officiating. Mrs. LaFayette Bahnsen served as organist and Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Lacock were vocalists. Pallbearers were Harold Westphal, Edwin Westphal, Herbert Westphal, Lloyd Westphal, Glen Westphal, and Wayne Westphal. Internment was in Wyoming cemetery.
